Bells and Bell-ringing

Two of our three churches have active bell-towers: St Mary's and St Bartholomew's.

St Mary’s has a fine peal of 8 bells cast by John Taylor & Co of Loughborough in 1926. The tenor weighs 15cwt 3 qt 27lbs and is tuned to F. The tower is also a designated Central Council of Church Bellringers Ringing Centre.

Tim is tower captain and practices are held on Friday evenings 7.30-9.00pm. Sunday ringing is on 2nd & 4th Sundays 8.45-9.15am. Visitors are always welcome.

The bells of St Bartholomew’s East Ogwell were out of action until they were renovated by Whites of Appleton. The 6 bells have a tenor weighing 5.5cwt and the renovation work included rehanging the bells, casting a new tenor bell and the creation of a new ringing room higher up in the tower. This work was completed in mid 2014.
